Cheap linguistic thrills.

Here's a recommendation for something extremely silly you can do to entertain yourself, in the tradition of Mark Twain's retranslation into English of the French translation of The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calavaras County. Go to the translation website of your choice--I tend to use the one at http://www.worldlingo.com/products_services/worldlingo_translator.html myself, but I suspect that Babelfish would work just fine--and set it up for a French to English translation. Then feed in the URL http://www.tv5.org/TV5Site/musique/fs_paroles.php?id_parole=760 and look at the results.

You have just made yourself an English translation of the song Belleville Rendezvous from The Triplets of Belleville. Notice that the lyrics are only slightly less confusing in a language you understand. Avoid the urge to click on the little icon that says "Video" or you'll get the official music video for the song sung by a guy that makes Boy George look like a member of the Bush White House. Settle back in your chair, secure in the knowledge that you've broadened your cultural horizons.
